Is Cancun Safe For Tourists?
When planning your trip to Cancun you might have concerns if Cancun is safe. We’re not going to lie, there have been instances of crime in Cancun in the past. However, it’s important to note that we felt completely safe during our visit and most tourists experience no issues whatsoever.
Since then, Cancun has increased its security measures by adding surveillance cameras and increased police presence. Additionally, local authorities are making efforts to prioritize the well-being of tourists.
Like with visiting any destination, we advise you to take precautions such as keeping an eye on your belongings, being aware of your surroundings, and avoiding walking alone at night. Follow these precautions to ensure your safety throughout your time in Cancun.
What Are The Best Months To Go To Cancun?
When you’re planning your trip to Cancun the month you visit is something very important to consider! Especially, if you don’t want to visit when there will be a high chance of rainy days or heat that’s too uncomfortable to walk around.
December to April would be the best months to visit Cancun for your getaway. The weather is mild and pleasant for walking around the city. You will also experience little to no chance of rain.
As far as the temperature you can expect it to range from the mid-to high-80s so you can lay on the beach comfortably.
Overall, we can’t deny that Cancun is an amazing destination year-round, but if you’re after perfect temps and a low chance of rain, then planning your vacation between December and April is a no-brainer.

How To Get Around Cancun
If you’re wondering how to get around Cancun, there are plenty of ways to get around the city.
Public Buses
If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to get around Cancun, consider taking the public bus. Buses run on the clock every 5 minutes and run 24/7, which makes traveling within the city and the Hotel Zone super easy and convenient.
Bus fare is inexpensive as a one-way ticket is 50 cents in USD. So, it’s a good option if you’re on a budget, but want to get around town. Route R1 and R2 will take you to the downtown area and Hotel Zone which has the main attractions.
Taxis
If you prefer not to take the bus, another option is taking a taxi in Cancun. They are more convenient but will be more expensive than the bus. Be sure to negotiate a price in advance since the taxis aren’t metered in Cancun.
Ride-Sharing Apps
Uber is available in Cancun and is another option for getting around. Prices tend to be higher than buses, but cheaper than taxis. At least by taking an Uber, you will know the price upfront, so no need to negotiate the fare. Keep in mind, Uber is not allowed at the Cancun Airport so you will have to take a taxi from the airport. They are also not allowed on any hotel property Hotel Zone, so you will have to walk onto the road.
Car Rentals
Another way to get around Cancun is by renting a car. An advantage of having your own car getting is going at your own pace. It is also convenient if you plan on taking day trips to Tulum or Playa del Carmen, you can stop at some amazing cenotes on the way. Be sure to have a valid driver’s license, and an International Driving Permit is highly advised.
Before you rent a car we do want to make you aware that the traffic in Cancun can be a little chaotic, and parking in the city can be an added stress.
Bicycles
If you’re staying within the Hotel Zone consider renting a bike. However, we recommend you ride with caution, as it doesn’t seem to be very bike-friendly.
Ferries
If you want to visit nearby islands like Isla Mujeres then you must take a ferry. We enjoyed the Ultramar, which runs regularly from Cancun to Isla Mujeres.
