Our Honest Fairmont Mayakoba Review
Okay, we get it, you may be short on time, so here’s the quick answer. After spending seven nights at Fairmont Mayakoba, we absolutely think it’s worth considering if you’re looking for a gorgeous luxury resort with amazing service and plenty of amenities. And yes, we would absolutely go back in a heartbeat.
What really makes the resort stand out isn’t just the picture-perfect pools or the white sand beach. It’s how everything comes together, from the thoughtful service to the peaceful vibes and the attention to detail throughout the property.
That said, we are realistic here; no resort is perfect. Fairmont Mayakoba is large, which means getting around will take a little planning. Depending on the type of vacation you’re looking for, that may be something you love or something you wish someone told you before booking.
In the rest of this review, we will share what our stay was like and what we loved most. Our goal is to help you decide whether Fairmont Mayakoba is the right fit for your vacation and whether it’s worth the price for the experience you’re hoping for.
Why We Chose Fairmont Mayakoba, Mexico
With so many luxury resorts along the Riviera Maya, choosing where to stay isn’t an easy task. We wanted a resort that was relaxing and upscale, but also offered plenty to do without us really needing to leave the property. Fairmont Mayakoba ticked all of those boxes.
Tucked within the exclusive Mayakoba community, the resort offers lush mangroves, winding waterways, and a beautiful stretch of Caribbean beach. It feels hidden, but it’s only about 45 minutes from Cancun International Airport, making it easy to get to after your flight.

Who We Think This Resort Is Best For
After our stay, we think Fairmont Mayakoba is best for:
- Travelers looking for a luxury escape with exceptional service.
- Families who want kid-friendly amenities without sacrificing a high-end experience.
- Couples celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary, or even a babymoon.
- Friends looking for a relaxing getaway with beautiful pools and outstanding dining.
Checking Into Fairmont Mayakoba

The experience at Fairmont Mayakoba begins long before you reach your room. From the moment you arrive, the resort feels peaceful, and that lush tropical landscaping helps. It has open-air spaces and exceptional staff ready to welcome you.
Getting there was pretty effortless for our little fam too. Our stay included a private transfer from Cancun International Airport, so the hotel picked us up and took us directly to the property. We were thrilled it was one less thing this mommy had to do. No hassle figuring out rental cars or hunting down a ride after landing, which is exactly the kind of vibe we need for the start of a vacation.
Because the property spans more than 500 acres, don’t expect to find everything a short walk away. Instead, Fairmont Mayakoba was designed to blend into its natural surroundings, making the resort feel like its own private oasis. And believe us, it definitely has that vibe.
Getting Around the Resort
One thing that surprised us was just how large Fairmont Mayakoba is. While you can walk to many areas, the resort also has complimentary bikes and golf cart transportation, so it is easy to get between your room, the beach, restaurants, and pools.
Personally, we loved the resort’s size because it never felt crowded. It felt more private and remote, especially when strolling the beautiful walking paths surrounded by mangroves and wildlife.
Also, we didn’t feel like we needed a rental car. The resort has a huge variety of restaurants and things to do right on site, so we were perfectly happy staying put. Between the complimentary golf carts, bikes, and our private airport transportation, a car would have been one more thing to deal with, and we didn’t want that.
Our Room at Fairmont Mayakoba
One highlight of our stay at Fairmont Mayakoba, Mexico, was the room itself; we stayed in the Beach Area Casita. After our beach days or exploring the resort, we were always excited to get back to our comfy room to relax and recharge.
We have stayed in so many luxury hotels. The rooms here felt more calming than flashy. There are private terraces, lagoon views, or easy access to the beach options you can choose from.
Our Beach Area Casita worked well for our little family, but it felt a bit tight once we added a crib. The bathroom was huge and absolutely gorgeous, so apparently that’s where all our extra square footage went.
One detail that completely melted us was seeing an adorable little robe and matching slippers laid out for our little girl. Those thoughtful touches make a luxury hotel stay feel a little more special, especially when you’re traveling with a baby.
Was the Room Worth It?
After spending several nights here with the fam, the room is one reason Fairmont Mayakoba feels like the ultimate luxury escape. While everyone is on a different budget, the extra comfort, design, and relaxing vibe made it feel like more than just a place to sleep.
We would absolutely book the Beach Area Casita again. It was close to both the beach and the pool. If you’re traveling with a baby and need a crib, the room can start to feel a little snug once everything is set up; we just wanted to be honest.
That said, the value depends on the room category you pick.
Pools, Beach, and Resort Grounds
Let’s be honest, if you’re booking a stay at Fairmont Mayakoba, you’re probably already picturing yourself with a frozen cocktail in one hand and a lounge chair with your name on it. We were too!
The good news is, the resort is even more picturesque than the photos. Everywhere you look, there’s another palm-lined walkway, peaceful lagoon, or scenery so gorgeous that it makes you think, “Okay, I need a photo here too.”
Speaking of photos, if you’re anything like us and always have your camera, take a peek at the camera gear we are obsessed with. It’s exactly what we use to capture those vacation photos you’ll still be looking at months later.
The Pools

Whether your ideal vacation involves reading a book by the water or ordering “just one more” pina colada, the pools are where you’ll probably spend most of the day.
Our absolute favorite was the pool closest to the beach and Brisas Restaurant. We hung by this pool often and loved being just steps from the beach, and having Brisas nearby certainly didn’t hurt when food and cocktails were screaming our name.
We also splurged on a cabana by the pool one day, which made our pool day even better.
The Beach

We’re always a tad skeptical of resort beaches because the photos online tend to work overtime. Thankfully, Fairmont Mayakoba’s beach actually lives up to its hype.
First, let’s talk about seaweed because, yep, that’s something you definitely want to know before booking a beach vacation. Fairmont installed barriers in the ocean to help keep the seaweed away, and they do work. We didn’t see any seaweed during our stay.
Now, I’m going to put our photographer hat on for a second; the barriers do make the ocean a little less picturesque from afar. Is that something most people will care about? Probably not. Did we notice it while trying to get the perfect shot? Of course.
As for swimming, we had no problem getting in the water since it was calm and completely swimmable during our stay. But to be honest, the water itself was darker than that crystal-clear turquoise you may be dreaming about.
Plenty of lounge chairs with palapas for shade, and yes, there’s beach service, which is very important to me. Once you’re parked under a palapa with a cocktail in hand, you really don’t need to move unless the ocean is calling your name.
One thing we’d never seen before was pools right on the beach; not gonna lie, we thought that was pretty cool. You can literally go from lounging by the pool to taking a dip in the ocean within minutes.
And if you’re wondering whether the beach is kid-friendly, the answer is a very enthusiastic yes. Kids were everywhere during our stay. So if you’re traveling with little ones, you’ll be in very good company.
Fairmont Mayakoba Photos Worth Taking

One thing that will totally surprise you is just how many beautiful spots there were beyond the beach. Sure, we totally know the ocean is stunning. Still, some of our favorite Fairmont Mayakoba photos came from the quiet strolls along the paths, tropical scenery, and little corners of the resort that most people probably don’t realize they are walking past.
Trust me, your future Instagram feed will be so proud of you!
Dining at Fairmont Mayakoba

If you’re like us, half the excitement of staying at a luxury resort is eating! Vacation calories don’t count… right?
One of the things we looked forward to most at Fairmont Mayakoba was dining at all the restaurants, and thank goodness they didn’t disappoint. No matter if you’re grabbing breakfast before heading to the pool or having a long dinner with a cocktail in hand, dining feels like part of the experience, not just some random part of your day.
And speaking of cocktails, if you come home inspired to recreate your favorite vacation drink, you’ll love these cocktails from around the world that we put together.
Also, we didn’t run into any issues getting restaurant reservations during our stay.
Our Favorite Restaurants
We ate at every restaurant on the property during our seven-night visit, so it’s safe to say we gave the dining options a pretty good test run. You can choose from around seven restaurants, and we didn’t have one we’d tell you to skip.
Brisas became our absolute favorite, especially for breakfast. The avocado toast and French toast were incredible, and having it so close to our favorite pool certainly didn’t hurt. For dinner, we loved the Italian restaurant, Bassano, and we would happily eat there again.
Drinks and Cocktails
A luxury vacay and a good cocktail go hand in hand.
Whether you’re ordering a frozen drink by the pool, enjoying one pre-dinner, or having an evening nightcap, this is a great place to cheers to your favorites.
Was the Food Worth the Price?
So, let’s be real here, dining at luxury resorts isn’t cheap. So if you’re gonna dish out the cash, you wanna know whether the quality matches the price tag.
For us, this came down to more than just the food. We were eyeing the service, atmosphere, presentation, and the overall experience; all played a role in whether we felt each meal was worth it.
Is the Fairmont Mayakoba All-Inclusive Worth It?

This is probably one of the biggest questions people have before booking, and honestly, there is no right answer. The answer really depends on how you wanna spend your vacation.
If you’re the type who wants to order that extra cocktail, say yes to dessert, and never think twice about the bill, the all-inclusive package will be totally worth it. On the other hand, if you plan to spend more days exploring outside the resort or don’t eat and drink much there, paying as you go may save you some pesos.
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer, so it’s worth thinking about how you’ll actually spend your time there instead of automatically choosing one option over the other.
What Is Included?
- Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
- Alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. (Some premium alcohol wasn’t included)
- Room service, if applicable.
- Any restaurants or menu items that were excluded.
- Any limits or surprises you weren’t expecting.
Who Should Book the All-Inclusive Package?

This is one of the biggest questions you’ll have circulating in your brain before booking, and the answer really comes down to what your vacation will look like.
We chose Fairmont Mayakoba’s all-inclusive program and paid a daily rate that covered breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktails, and some other drinks. Basically, it was nice that we could order another margarita without doing vacation math, which is exactly how we prefer to lounge by the pool.
But a few details can help you decide. Some premium alcohol isn’t included, tips are separate, and yes, there is a resort fee. You’ll also want to add to your budget for things like spa treatments, well, because Mexico plus a luxury resort plus a massage is a no-brainer.
Golf cart transportation around the resort is complimentary, so you won’t have to pull out your wallet every time your room feels miles away from the beach.
Who Should Book the All-Inclusive Package?
From our experience, the all-inclusive package makes the most sense if you:
- Plan to eat most of your meals at the resort.
- Enjoy cocktails, a glass of wine, or specialty coffee throughout the day.
- Want to order what you want without checking the price first.
- Prefer having most of your vacation expenses covered in advance.
If that sounds like your kind of vacay, you’ll likely get your money’s worth. We loved being able to grab breakfast, order drinks poolside, and head to dinner without mentally keeping a running total of everything we’d spent, which adds up when you’re a family of 3.
Because nothing ruins a second margarita quite like remembering how much you spent on the first one.
Who Might Skip It?

Paying as you go may make more sense if you:
- Plan to spend several days venturing outside the resort.
- Usually eat lighter meals.
- Rarely drink alcohol.
- Prefer dining at more local restaurants during your trip.
It really comes down to how much time you’re planning to spend at Fairmont Mayakoba. If you’re coming here to lounge by the pool, dine well, sip cocktails, and fully embrace doing absolutely nothing productive, the all-inclusive package is definitely worth considering.
If you’re using the resort more as a home base while exploring the Riviera Maya, you won’t get so much value from it.
What We Loved Most

Obviously, every luxury resort has a nice pool and a pretty beach. What makes you want to come back is how the place makes you feel, and Fairmont Mayakoba definitely aced the test.
It Felt Like a True Escape
Even though the resort is large, we never felt overwhelmed. You can easily find quiet corners to slow down, whether sipping coffee on the balcony, walking through the tropical grounds, or taking lazy dips in the pool.
The Service Stood Out
Luxury hotels should make your vacation feel effortless, and that’s exactly what Fairmont Mayakoba did. Every single employee was wonderful throughout our stay. Everyone we interacted with made us feel welcome, and the service was consistently one of the things that stood out about Fairmont Mayakoba.
The Resort Is Beautiful
We are not just talking about the beach.
The landscaping, canals, bridges, and palm-lined walkways make the entire property feel like a tropical oasis. Even our family walks to breakfast became an adventure because there was always something beautiful to look at.
If you love having a full camera roll, you’ll have no problem finding gorgeous backdrops around the resort.
We’d Come Back For…
The grounds were totally one of our favorite things about Fairmont Mayakoba. You will easily fall in love with the lush landscaping, wildlife, canals, and walking paths; simply exploring the property felt like one awesome experience.
We also loved how close our casita was to both the beach and pool. With a baby in tow, not having to make an expedition out of every pool or beach trip is a total win for parents.
A Few Things to Know Before Booking

The Resort Is Bigger Than You Think
Don’t expect to walk out of your room and be at the beach in two minutes.
Fairmont Mayakoba is spread across a huge property, which is pretty much why it feels so peaceful. The good news is that getting around is easy peasy thanks to the complimentary bikes and golf carts, so don’t let the size scare you.
Pack for More Than Just the Beach
The property is so stunning, so you’re more than likely to spend plenty of time by the pool, walking on the beautiful paths around the property, and heading out for a swanky dinner.
Be sure to pack comfortable shoes, light and breathable outfits, and a swimsuit or two. If you’re flying in for your vacay, our guide on what to pack on a long flight has plenty of essentials so you can arrive feeling a little more refreshed.
Decide What’s Most Important to You
Some care more about being steps from the beach. Others want the quietest room possible or easy access to restaurants.
Before booking, think about what brings you the most joy. That can help you choose the room category that’s the best fit and make your stay even more exciting.
Is Fairmont Mayakoba Worth It?
After spending time here with the fam, our answer is yes, but with one caveat. Fairmont Mayakoba is totally worth it if you’re looking for a luxury resort where you can truly unwind and enjoy the property. If your perfect vacation means slowing down, enjoying great food, lounging by the pool, and taking in beautiful scenery, we think you’ll leave happy.
What really makes this resort special isn’t just the rooms or the beach. It’s the total experience. Exceptional service, a lush tropical setting, incredible dining, and a peaceful vibe blend to create the kind of trip that’s hard to stop thinking about once you’re home.
That said, if you’re someone who plans to spend every day sightseeing or exploring the Riviera Maya, you more than likely won’t get the full value of everything the resort has to offer. Fairmont Mayakoba is a destination in itself, and it’s worth giving yourself time to actually enjoy it.
Would we go back? Absolutely. The beautiful grounds, wildlife, easy access to the beach and pool, and wonderful staff are what made the experience stand out for our little family. After your stay, it’s easy to see why Fairmont is one of the most talked-about luxury hotels in Mayakoba.
