How To Get Around With This Weekend In Paris Itinerary

Red Paris Métro sign with the Eiffel Tower visible in the background, perfect for a weekend in Paris itinerary.
Metro station in Paris

Your weekend stay in Paris will be memorable. I’m sure of that, so I want to give you all the details and must-know info on getting around Paris.

Metro

To start, let’s talk about the Parisian metro everyone recommends. Known as the subway, underground, or simply metro, this is the fastest way to get around the city during your Paris weekend trip. It has 16 interconnected lines, and some also connect with the train.

You can use the metro from 5:30 am to 1 a.m., since those are the opening and closing times. Pro-tip: if you want to catch the last train, be at the station at 12:45 or earlier!

Foot

Another way to get around Paris is on foot, which is great if you want to save money and walk around finding unique photo spots.

You’ll get to see great cafés and the beauty of Paris if you choose to get around the city on foot. Of course, you don’t need to spend the entire day walking —thus I’m sure your feet will start to hurt— but combining taking the metro with walking, for example, can help you save money and enjoy Paris a lot more.

Taxi/Rideshare

The last means of transport in Paris you should consider is a taxi/rideshare. It is the most expensive option, so if you’re on a budget, you might want to use the metro and walk as much as possible.

The minimum taxi fare in Paris is €2.60, and depending on the time you’re taking the taxi and the day of the week, the price per kilometer might go up.

Another option is to share a taxi, which you can also do in many countries, to save money.

Always remember, Parisian taxis look like normal cars and have a “Taxi Parisien” sign on the top. When you get in the taxi, check for the driver’s badge with the license number and the taxi fare meter just to be sure you’re in a real taxi.

According to locals, taxis in Paris tend not to drop you off where you asked if the trip isn’t convenient for them or if you’re carrying luggage.

Having a French breakfast is a non-negotiable Parisian activity. Spending your morning at a Parisian cafe is the best way to start your day before heading off to the city. Here’s my go-to list of cafes.

  • Café du Trocadéro: After watching the sunrise, go to the Café du Trocaderó, which is nearby, and enjoy a true French breakfast with a view.
  • Le Malakoff: This cafe is in Trocadéro too and offers great desserts and morning treats, perfect for recharging before going out.
  • Les Gourmandises Du Trocadéro: Another excellent option after sunrise. This cafe has a beautiful menu and opens from 10 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Odette: A chic patisserie, or cake shop, where you can try incredible cakes, perfect for those who have a sweet tooth.

With a sightseeing tour of the Seine River, you’ll get to see historic Paris landmarks as well as enjoy a wonderful day on a nice small cruise. Not only will you see the beautiful sites of Paris, but you can have a wonderful dinner as well on a Seine River cruise.

Get Lost On The Streets

To close this weekend in Paris itinerary, the last thing I recommend you do is to get lost on the streets. Start walking until your feet hurt and you’ve seen everything in Paris without a rush or a guide, with hundreds of spots to get to.

The wonderful thing about traveling is that you can follow your heart, wander around the city like everyone else, and enjoy the magic of it.

Au revoir, Paris!
